Emotional Leadership Development Course - Online Cohort Based

Although, I haven't fully extended the practice into my work environment it has been enormously helpful in informing and helping me make thoughtful and wise decisions through a difficult process at work. I'm navigating a WHS situation that is compounded by being in an under resourced workforce. While I know behaviours are unacceptable, I've generally slipped into rescuer mode and tried to be helpful, the ECD is helping me navigate the honest and difficult conversations that must be had It continues to help me stay in a difficult process when previous Iay have abandoned it as it is too hard. I am so grateful for a tool that helps in this way and I can see how it will be most useful in the healthcare environment I work in.

It was a great course which reminded me of the importance of emotions in managing people and how managing my emotions will impact managing others as well

The cards help define the emotions. Without it, I can imagine that we may tend to use similar emotions to describe how we feel. I also like the way that negative emotions are being reframed. This to me reinforces the idea that all experiences, good or bad, is always an opportunity to learn and this is exactly what the approach helps us to realize and encourages us to express it. Good tool for coaching and creating self awareness and insight.

As a leadership practitioner turned coach, I'm always looking for practical tools that help leaders bring out the best in themselves and their teams. The ECD Leadership course was insightful, engaging, and immediately applicable. It challenged me to think more intentionally about the emotional culture leaders create and provided simple, practical ways to build trust, connection, communication, and high-performing teams. I highly recommend it to any leader or coach who wants to lead with greater awareness and impact.

Course was great. Good mix of online and group sessions. slightly less structured than i'm used to, but i think that gives you more freedom in applying.

GREAT and fun

I thought the concept was interesting in using cards/words to help leaders to share their thoughts more easily. It indirectly gives leaders permission to own their feelings and give them an identity. It gives leaders the power to feel and how to channel those feelings to help them effectively lead themselves and their teams.

The ECD Emotional Leadership Development Course was a natural next step after completing the Personal Change and Stakeholder Engagement courses. It brought the concepts together by focusing on the role leaders play in shaping emotional culture and creating environments where teams feel supported, engaged, and able to navigate change successfully.

This course is jam packed with so many tools and additional resources - I spent a whole day exploring some of the other information!

I thought the course was really good, I loved the flexibility to use it how you see it is needed and all of the resources are super valuable and make it easy to jump in headfirst to deliver.

This tool has made emotions tangible and actionable for me. It's one thing reflecting or discussing emotions, and another to actually have the words in cards. It helps me process things and go deep into an issue, and eventually flesh out possible solutions.

Having a conversation with myself for worst/best boss allowed me to identify how I want to show up as a leader.

This course has been much more than learning about emotions—it has been a journey of learning about myself. One of my biggest realisations is that identifying and naming my emotions is not as easy as I had imagined. Throughout the activities, I often found myself taking time to reflect before I could accurately describe what I was feeling. Sometimes I was uncertain whether the emotion I selected truly represented what was happening inside me. This reminded me that emotional awareness is a skill that requires intentional practice rather than something that comes naturally. The Emotional Culture Deck (ECD) provided a simple yet powerful way to make emotions visible. Instead of suppressing or ignoring difficult emotions, I learned to acknowledge them with curiosity and compassion. Simply putting a name to an emotion often brought greater clarity and helped me better understand my reactions and behaviours. Another concept that left a strong impression on me was Emotional Contagion. I have always believed that leaders influence the people around them, but I did not fully appreciate how emotions can spread throughout a team so quickly. A leader's emotional state, whether positive or negative, can shape the energy, motivation, trust and psychological safety of an entire workplace. This reinforced my belief that emotional leadership begins with leading ourselves first. I also appreciated the discussion on authentic and strategic emotions. Initially, I wondered whether intentionally demonstrating certain emotions might seem inauthentic. However, I learned that choosing emotional responses consciously, especially when serving others as a leader, coach or HR professional, can eventually become genuine habits. Leadership is not about pretending—it is about intentionally creating the emotional environment that enables others to thrive. The backstage and offstage metaphors were another meaningful takeaway. They reminded me that every individual has experiences, worries and emotions that others cannot see. As leaders, we often focus on behaviours without understanding what may be happening beneath the surface. This has encouraged me to become more curious, ask better questions and listen more deeply before making assumptions. Personally, I noticed that many of my desired emotions revolve around confidence, courage, appreciation and empowerment. Conversely, the emotions I most wish to avoid are feeling invisible, controlled, uncertain or unwelcomed. Recognising these emotional patterns has increased my self-awareness and helped me understand what conditions allow me to perform at my best, as well as what situations trigger self-doubt. Moving forward, I want to intentionally build the habit of checking in with my emotions instead of dismissing them. I also hope to use the ECD confidently in coaching conversations, leadership development programmes and team workshops to create meaningful discussions that might not otherwise happen. I recognise that introducing emotional conversations in organisations may not always be easy. Some leaders may hesitate to show vulnerability, while others may question the value of discussing emotions at work. For the ECD to be successfully embedded within an organisation, leadership support and role modelling from senior management will be essential in creating psychological safety and demonstrating that emotions are not a sign of weakness but an important source of insight. Overall, this course has reminded me that emotional leadership begins with self-leadership. Before we can influence, inspire or develop others, we must first understand ourselves. Developing emotional awareness is not about becoming emotional—it is about becoming more intentional, more human and ultimately a more effective leader.

This course transformed how I view leadership by shifting emotions from abstract concepts into measurable, actionable data. Using the ECD gave me a concrete framework to navigate tough team dynamics, design psychological safety, and address burnout productively. I walked away with practical skills and tools that I can implement immediately to improve trust, performance, and resilience.

Great course, gives you so many ways to use the cards and a frame work to work within, however these are all very flexible so you can make them work for your purpose.

This is an outstanding course that changes how we think about emotion. This course provides a framework for positive breakthroughs in workplace culture first through self-awareness, then understanding others and finally working as a team to design workplace culture.

The ECD is an excellent resource with wide ranging applications. The course is well structured and you complete it feeling equipped to run your own workshop using the tool. The support resources are of excellent quality and extensive.

I think this course content and materials and facilitators are fantastic! I appreciate that more and more resources are being developed all the time. I have learned a lot and look forward to having this tool in my tool belt. In terms of learning & communication style/needs, this format didn't always work for me, but I continued to be committed to working through it and finding ways to engage in a manner that fit my needs, because ultimately, I know how important this work is.

I have truly enjoyed this experience. Being able to work at my own pace afforded me the opportunity to be overwhelmed with my job responsibilities while also being able to carve out 20-30 minutes on random days to work through the EDC activities. I would not have been able to take this course had it been in a structured time frame. I was able to learn more by taking this on slowly and really reflecting on my personal self-awareness. Great learning opportunity.

This is a course that if you lead people you need to do. To often we focus on how our people think, how they problem solve, what their numbers tell us without understanding the foundation all of those actions, behaviours and processes are built on. The real data is our emotions because how we react to them impacts all of the above. Understand the foundational emotion data and we can influence and lead more effectively. ECDs Leadership course is a great way to learn and garner those skills. It’s a small investment for a potentially huge return.

I've spend 20+ years as a leader and the use of Emotions and the deck is so smart that i wish i had it when i was starting out and not halfway through my career.

great insight into my own journey of self awareness, and how it can help to leading others and shape amazingly insightful conversations that build psychological safety but also fun in our team.

This course gave me time to reflect on what is really important about leadership and emotional culture. Small actions can have a big impact and how we show up emotionally can be contagious. Once we are aware of this, and once we really tap into this, we can much better respond to our teams.

It is a powerful tool to get leaders to understand how they can get the best out of their people. It has a dual benefit. You get to see how your people feel, and you also see how those labelled or 'affected' feelings can translate into rituals, behaviours and performance

I love the way that the deck is so simple to engage with, easy to hack to suit a situation, while creating a platform for some big discussions about self and teams. It's often lonely being a leader , so its wonderful to have a tool that helps break down those barriers that can exist between leaders, and leaders and their teams. The Leadership Canvas is such a powerful team tool to come out of these discussions.

Amazing course that delves deeper into how to lead self then others.

What impressed me most was the clear focus on leaders doing this work themselves first. Emotional awareness, psychological safety, and healthy cultures don’t just “happen” in organisations; they are modelled and set in motion by leaders who are willing to lead the way. I also loved the perspective shift of first asking how I want to feel as a leader before thinking about how I want my team or organisation to feel. That framing felt deeply human and practical. Finally, the course connected theory to practice by showing the real impact of emotional contagion in everyday leadership. I walked away with tools and insights that I am excited to apply: from integrating emotional leadership more intentionally in my 1:1 sessions, to finding ways of working with senior leadership teams on culture design and change.

I have found the ECD Emotional Leadership Development Course very beneficial, both on a personal level and on a professional level. The self-reflective practices while completing the course have been very powerful and I feel more confident within myself as a result. I'm have just completed studying Emotional Culture Leadership with Riders & Elephants, through Jeremy and his amazing mentors, experts and the wider ECD Community. I cannot recommend this course highly enough. It will be useful and a game changer for any HR, Change Management, Wellbeing/H&S, Managers & Senior Leaders. As an experienced People, Capability and Wellbeing practitioner I cannot believe how easily the ECD opens up possibilities and supports solutions in my practice that would otherwise be a challenge to achieve. (The ECD also has a Te Reo version which is even better given I work in a Kaupapa Māori space ). You really have to see and experience it to believe it. You can either harness the power of emotions in your mahi and for your teams, or you can be subject to them. Take the leap, you will be grateful you did and your team and those you support will thank you ✨️

This course has been fantastic to better understand the separate components of leading self and leading teams, but also the link between the two. It's a great tool which can be used for many different purposes, and in practice creates a safe environment for facilitation where participants land on the answers themselves, through their own learning. A really great tool to get a collective moving in the right direction and to be open to different perspectives.

I enjoyed the group webinars, learning from global participants, and realizing that all our organizations are pretty similar in areas they can improve on and how ECD can help with that.

Fabulous! Despite it being an online course I still felt very connected with the cohort and wider community. The calls, weekly summary emails and Jeremy's engagement was brilliant. The design of the course and support info/documentation is excellent and has inspired me for my own practice. Bravo ECD team!

Thorough introduction of how to use the ECD with a leadeship team - lots of insight and examples.

Having worked on Leadership Development for a very long time, it is always exciting and refreshing to approach training from a new perspective. I am also shifting from a coach and trainer who begun working with teams holistically incorporating the physical and mental with a look at emotions too, to prioritising emotions as the biggest part of what I do. Because they are the driver for the actions we choose to take. This course has given me not only the structure to be able to upgrade and be creative with the various training I do but also a set of tools to be able to offer clients that will make the outcomes and success sustainable.

Investing in this type of development reminds you of the importance emotions plays in how we show up and how we encourage others to show up and how then together, within a work environment, we can achieve high (or higher) performance while appreciating each other as human beings.

Great starter course

It's been a great online course, easy to follow and understand how the deck can be used to build culture and develop leaders. The resources are both top notch and professional. I've enjoyed the links to articles, video's and books to support learning and the content. Unfortunately, I didn't make any of the live calls but great to have the replays. It feels like a very supportive community led by Jeremy.

I already have over 50 ECD cards - to do the course, it would have been good to have an option of just purchasing the canvases / conversation guides rather than extra ECD cards which I didn't really need.

This is an excellent course for leaders - an opportunity to get to know more of themselves and their teams so they can build effective and emotionally, high performing teams

Having been in the R&E community for a while now I have already been facilitating Leadership workshops using the tools, so I wasn't starting from scratch. This course was hugely beneficial in that it reinforced what I had been doing, which gave me great confidence. It was also a fabulous learning of additional handbooks / tips I could be using going forward which would enhance and strengthen the work I am already doing. Like most things, we can get in to our comfort zones and have our own rituals of how we approach conversations / workshops and this Emotional Leadership course was a timely nudge into further opportunities and growth. I enjoyed the course and seeing how the various activities using the cards can bring about different outcomes and also can be flexible to the context at hand. Definitely need to play around and experiment different things with it. At the end of the day, it is how you facilitate the process. No right or wrong outcomes.
